Eero Aarnio, famous for a Bubble, a Ball, and a Pony, Chairs that is!
|
We are proud to sell not just Aarnio's famous Bubble Chair, but the entire collection of furniture created by the pioneering Finish designer.
Eero Aarnio, was born in 1932 in Finland, where he studied from 1954 to 1957 at the Institute of Industrial Arts in Helsinki. In 1962 he opened his own office as an interior and industrial designer where he began to pursue his pioneering use of plastics in his furniture design. Unencumbered by the limitations of conventional materials, Aarnio was free to let his creative vision run free, producing shapes and colors never before seen in modern furniture design. His work including the Bubble Chair, Pony Chair, Pastil Chair, and Ball Chair have rightfully taken on the stature and right to be called Modern Classics.

Eero Aarnio's 1963 Ball Chair

The Ball Chair is manufactured in Finland to the exacting specifications of Eero Aarnio's original design
|
In 1963 Aarnio conceived of the famous Ball Chair, sometimes referred to as The Globe Chair, it was not until some years later that it was finally manufactured. Using fiberglass Aarnio produced a shape that was considered at the time quite a novelty in the furniture industry. Like the 1963 original, our Ball Chair is made of a fiberglass shell entirely upholstered on the inside, and mounted on a metal swiveling base.
"Sitting in the ball chair is a special experience indeed. Sounds are absorbed, creating a peaceful feeling of security and comfort."
However unlike the 1960's original design, which only came in white, red, black and orange upholster, we added a few more choices. Well, we also added some other options, that some might consider a bit unorthodox!.

Be care full when buying modern classics like theBubble Chair from illegitimate dealers. With demand at an all time high for classics from Aarnio, LeCorbusier, Eames, and others, the market is being flooded with cheap imitations. The growth of the Internet has enabled these merchants to distribute their knockoffs with unprecedented speed, and security.
Whether it is being offered on e-Bay, a web site, or a local boutique, ask questions. Find out who the manufacturer is; what are the specific materials used in construction, if it's leather, is it Anilina Leather? But most of all trust your instincts. As the saying goes, "If it's too good to be true. Then it probably is" |
